1325706 Seaming KONINKLIJKE EMBALLAGE INDUSTRIE VAN LEER NV 23 July 1970 [1 Aug 1969 30 June 1970] 35769/70 Heading B3J A sheet metal closure 1 is seamed to a sheet metal container 2 by providing the container with a flange 19, Fig. 8, which, in axial crosssection of the container, curves outwardly over substantially its full width, forming a U- shaped channel 13 in the closure flange 14 and rolling the flanges together with a roller having a groove matching the seam to be rolled. Sealing material (15) may be applied to the closure 1 before or after, Figs. 6 or 7 (not shown) a preliminary channel 13 is formed by a roller (16). The material may be polyurethane or a rubber-based compound applied by spraying, or a loose or bonded ring of rubber, &c. may be used, the material being brought into a final condition if necessary by drying or vulcanizing. |
