Impulse generator for fluorescent lamp - uses NPN transistor with base connected to resistor and capacitor for pulse control triggering

The impulse generator includes a pair of terminals to be connected to a conventional AC source, with a diode rectifying bridge. An npn transistor is connected to the rectifier and operates in conjunction with a timing circuit including a resistive capacitive network. The transistor is connected to a primary coil which is electromagnetically coupled to a secondary coil. The secondary coil includes terminals for connection to the lamp. The circuit generates pulses in a sequence and at time intervals sufficient to maintain energisation of the lamp. The primary and secondary coils form part of a core transformer, with the housing sections separated to create a gap. The transformer includes a non-conductive pool which holds the winding and has a conductive core located within the non-conductive pool.
