The invention comprises disazo dyes of the formula where R represents one or more hydrogen atoms, or methyl or methoxy groups. They may be obtained by diazotizing 4<SP>1</SP>-aminoacetanilide or 4<SP>1</SP>-nitroaniline, which may be nuclearly substituted by one or more methyl or methoxy groups, coupling with an approximately equimolar amount of m-cresol, deacetylating the amide group or reducing the nitro group as appropriate, rediazotizing and coupling with an approximately equimolar amount of m-cresol. An example is given for the production of the dyes. They are useful for dyeing polyester fibres. |
