<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of producing an unsaturated alcohol in good selectivity and high yield even under relatively mild conditions when using an unsaturated carboxyl compound as a raw material. <P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the unsaturated alcohol comprises hydrogenating the unsaturated carboxyl compound in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst in which gold is supported on an inorganic oxide support. The unsaturated carbonyl compound includes e.g. methacrolein, benzaldehyde or anisealdehyde.
