Thermal purification of waste gas contg. organic impurities by direct combustion to CO2 and H2O or other oxidn. prods. which are less toxic than the original impurities comprises passing waste gas into burner below or in first part of fuel combustion zone, so that amt. of O2 taken into this combustion of fuel is not less than amt. needed for complete combustion of fuel and impurities and not greater than amt. taken in by air and waste gas taken together. Waste gases from a variety of industrial processes can be purified in this with reduced heat consumption.
