<p>1,272,513. Polyvinyl acetate-based adhesive compositions. SCHERICO Ltd. 26 May, 1970 [26 May, 1969], No. 25188/70. Heading C3P. A denture adhesive composition comprises as essential major components polyvinylacetate, ethanol and water, and as essential minor components a " hydro-colloid " component and a plasticizer. The hydrocolloid component is defined as being a hydrophilic material, especially inorganic hydrophilic materials which form colloidal systems with water. Especially suitable are colloidal silicates such as magnesium aluminosilicate. Plasticizers specified are dialkyl esters of phthalic acid such as dioctyl phthalate and di-(2-ethyl hexyl phthalate) and fatty acid esters, such as the fatty glycerides. A minor amount of a hydrophobic release agent such as mineral oil, may also be present. Amounts of the essential components preferred are 35-70% by wt. of the composition polyvinyl acetate, 20-70% by wt. of each of ethanol and water (based on. the polyvinyl acetate), 1-15% by wt. of the composition, of the hydrocolloid component and 0À1-10% by wt. of the composition of the plasticizer. The release agent if present, may be used in amounts up to 5% by wt. The composition may also contain a dye and/or flavouring agent.</p> |
