The additive consists of the product of (A) a phosphosulphide terpolymer of (1) ethylene (2) propylene (3) 1,4-hexadiene having a molecular weight of 3500-65000 (preferably 3500-35000) and containing 35-70% by weight (preferably 42-55%) of (2), 1-6% by weight (preferably 1-4%) of (3) the rest being (1) with (B) an amine of formula H2N(CH2)x-NRR1 (where x is 2 or 3 and R and R1 are 1-4C alkyl groups) suitably N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine. A concentrate of the additive may be used for a neutral lubricant in an amount of 5-50% by weight or the additive may be used for a mineral oil in an amount of 0.1-4% by weight. Suitable lubricants include hydraulic fluids and car transmission fluids. Previously it was necessary to add an agent to improve the viscosity of the oil, this necessity is now eliminated; the present composition has an extremely good stability for shearing.
