The perforated stencil of a rotary screen printing machine engages the material to be printed during movement of the latter with its outer surface, while ink is supplied to the opposite surface of the stencil, which surface is also subjected to sliding pressure by a doctor extending across the path of movement of the material to be printed. Uniform pressure over the entire length of the doctor produced by a gas or liquid under pressure employing pref. a piston-cylinder arrangement.
