PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst for prepn. of aβ-carbonyl compd. from anα- unsatd. hydrocarbon with a high selectivity by using a source of Group VIII metal and a polyphosphine having a specified structure or its salt. CONSTITUTION: A catalyst uses a source of Group VIII metal such as palladium and a polyphosphine of the formula I (in which, each R is independently selected from an optionally substd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc., and each of A, X and Z is independently selected from N, a CH group, a C-PR2 group and CR' group, wherein R' is a hydroxyl group, an amino group, etc.). The thus obtd. catalyst system is useful for carbonylation of an ethylenic or acetylenic unsatd. compd. to prepare a carbonylated product with a high selectivity.
