METHOD AND DEVICE FOR EFFICIENTLY USING RENAME BUFFER OF SUPER SCALAR PROCESSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance of a processor by reducing the number of times of the stoppage of a dispatching device due to the shortage of real rename buffers. SOLUTION: The dispatching device 46 uses the rename buffers 34 and 38 and discriminates the position of an operand and the result of an arithmetic operation. When all the rename buffers are in use, an excessive slot for a virtual rename butter is added and an allocation/allocation cancellation table is formed. Thus, since an execution device recognizes the set value of a rename busy bit and an instruction is allocated to the virtual rename buffer, the rename busy bit of the instruction is set. Thus, it is confirmed that the instruction can be processed but can not be ended until the rename busy bit is reset and the tag of rename butter busy signals for indicating that the instruction can not be completed to the execution device of the processor is attached to the instruction allocated to the virtual rename butter.
