PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continue recording operation without being interrupted even when ink in an ink storing tank is in an out-of-ink condition and to allow the tank to be replaced during the recording in terms of an ink jet recorder having the replaceable ink storing tank, a print head and an ink pump. SOLUTION: This ink jet recorder comprises a sub-ink storing tank 111 provided between an ink storing tank 112 and a print head 101. When it is detected that ink in the tank 112 is in an out-of-ink condition by an ink sensor 104, the recorder alerts an operator of that condition by an indicator 116 or a buzzer 117 and the recording is continued by using the sub-ink storing tank 111. When it is detected that ink in the sub-ink storing tank is in an out-of-ink condition by an ink sensor 105, the recorder also alerts the user similarly to the above. When the fact that the ink storing tank 112 is replaced is detected by means of a sensor 106, the recording is continued as usual. |
