PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat curable coating composition for forming a transpar ent coating or coating containing a pigment with good scuff resistance by reacting a multifunctional acrylate and a reaction product of co-hydrolysis/co- condensation of an alkoxy functional organometallic compound, alkoxysilane and water with a peroxide, and incorporating a second component in the resulting product. SOLUTION: A heat curable coating composition comprises a first component composed of a reaction product of a multifunctional acrylate (A) and a product (E) obtained by co-hydrolysis/co-condensation of an alkoxy functional organometallic compound (B), alkoxysilane (C) and water (D) with a peroxide (F), and a second component (H) containing an organic coating composition. The component (A) is 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate or the like, the component (B) is represented by the formula: M(OR4) (wherein M is Si or Ti), the component (C) is a compound represented by the formula [wherein X is a monovalent organic group copolymerizable with the component (A); R' is a monovalent hydrocarbon group; and a+b+c is 4], the component (F) is a benzoyl peroxide or the like and the component (H) is a polyester, an amino resin or the like.
