PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flexible capsule with no animal gelatin, and useful for coating balls, medicinal gelatin capsules or the like, by including vegetable starch modified so as to have properties similar to those of gelatin. SOLUTION: This capsule is such one as to be limited in closed inner chamber, contain no animal gelatin, have mechanical strength and flexibility each pref. at >=80% based on those of a reference film of gelatin and include vegetable starch modified so as to have gelatin-like properties. This capsule is desirable to contain the above-mentioned starch at about 20-80 wt.%, water at about 10-70 wt.% and a plasticizer (e.g. glycerol) at about 5-60 wt.%. It is desirable that the above-mentioned starch contains previously gelatinized oxidized wheat and another kind of starch, and also contains polyvinyl alcohol.
