摘要 1,174,966. Endless bucket conveyers; unloading ships. W. J. WALLACE SYSTEMS Inc. 4 Oct., 1967 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 45250/67. Headings B8A and B8E. [Also in Division B7] Material 36 is withdrawn from a tanker 34 by a conveyer comprising a plurality of buckets 42, connected by respective flexible cables 44 to form an endless bucket train and a wheel 46 for receiving and guiding the train which is characterized by a plurality of guide roller elements 142, 152 (Fig. 3). Each bucket 42 (Fig. 2) comprises right and left hand thread fittings 86, 88, each having a recess 100 for receiving a sleeve 106 swaged or welded on to both ends of each cable 44. Thus by unscrewing the members 86, 88, buckets may be added to, or taken from the train. Alternate cables 44 have right and left hand lays in order to minimize twisting of the train. When the tanker is full with material 36, the chain may be reduced in length as shown at 64 (Fig. 1). The wheel 46 comprises circumferentially spaced pillars 154 (Fig. 3) each carrying a grooved member 134 for supporting the cables 44 between the buckets 42. Four rollers 152 are arranged to guide the cables on to the member 134. Between each pillar 154 are mounted two rollers 142 which engage the periphery of a bucket. The framework of the wheel 46 is formed from sides (124) (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) of sheet metal. The bucket train is also guided over two other wheels 48 and 56 which are similar to the wheel 46 but are of a spoked construction. The wheel 56 is fabricated from pieces, each of which can be passed through an opening 60 provided in the tanker deck 38 for the passage of the bucket train. The spokes 254 (Fig. 13) fit into apertures (252) (Fig. 19, not shown) of a central hub. Adjacent spokes are coupled together by a jointed stay 266 (Fig. 13). One of the stay parts 278 is hinged to the associated spoke 254, and the other 280 is rigid with its spoke 254. The parts 278, 280, are held together by a releasable toggle fastening 284. The wheel 56 is carried on a tubular member 262 which is mounted on a ball race (Fig. 18a, not shown) for pivotal movement coaxially with the opening 60. The wheels 46 and 48 are carried by a framework 110 mounted on castor wheels 112. The wheel 48 causes a downward bend in the bucket chain thereby causing the buckets to discharge into a shoot 52 leading to an endless belt conveyer 54. The bucket train is driven by a wheel 50 similar in construction to the wheels 48 and 56, except that in addition, pairs of wheels 142 (Fig. 15) are mounted so as to drivingly engage the end face of each bucket. The pitch of the pairs of wheels 142 is slightly greater than that of the buckets of the train. Thus only one bucket at a time is drivingly engaged there being a slight clearance 246, 248, between the other roller pairs 142 and associated buckets. Instead of the train of buckets following in a free loop (Fig. 1), it may pass around a further guide wheel (310) (Fig. 20, not shown) at the bottom of the tanker compartment. A device 131 (Fig. 1) prevents reverse movement of the train.
