1296468 Cooling drinks; cold accumulators THERMO-BAUELEMENT AG 2 Feb 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 4878/70 Heading F4H A stirrer for cooling drinks comprises a conical or substantially spherical container for a substance whose freezing point is below that of water, and a handle in the form of a rod by which the stirrer may be manually rotated. The substance is of low viscosity in the liquid state so that heat exchange promoting currents are set up by rotation of the stirrer in that part of the substance which is in the molten state. Suitable substances are hydrates having freezing points between -5‹ C. and -20‹ C. The substance circulation may be encouraged by the provision of a ring fixed to the interior of the container, Fig. 1 (not shown). To allow for expansion on freezing of the substance, a piece of compressible material with gas filled pores may be provided in the container, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, the container may be only partially filled to leave a simple gas space which communicates with the central resin of the container either through a series of radial passages, Fig. 3 (not shown), or through a single pipe which has one end maintained in the air space by a float, Fig. 4 (not shown). The handle may be fitted after the container is filled, or the container may be filled through a hollow handle, Fig. 3a (not shown). The container may have spiral protrusions on its wall to promote the formation of currents in the drink. Stirrers may be stored at the table in a trough whose hollow walls are filled with a cold storage substance whose freezing point is lower than that of the substance in the stirrers, Fig. 5 (not shown). The stirrers may be cooled in a domestic refrigerator or in a purpose built thermoelectric refrigerator whose inner and outer walls are thermally connected to Peltier elements. |
