In the determination of hydrogen peroxide, of substances which react with the liberation of hydrogen peroxide, of peroxidase or of peroxidate active substances using the reaction of hydrogen peroxide with a chromogen, which reaction is catalysed by peroxidase or peroxidate active substances, the chromogen used has the general formula in which Y is hydroxl, mercapto or amino, Z is hydroxyl or Y and Z together represent oxygen and R is hydrogen or mercapto or amino or a lower alkyl, pyridino or morpholine radical or a piperazinyl radical which may be arylated, or a phenyl radical which may be substituted by at least one of hydroxyl, nitro, alkyl and alkoxy groups. Diagnostic agents comprise peroxidase or a peroxidate active substance and the chromogen (to determine hydrogen peroxide or substances reacting to liberate hydrogen peroxide); hydrogen peroxide or a substance or substances forming hydrogen peroxide and the chromogen (to determine peroxidate-active substances), and may be in the form of solutions, test papers or films on foil. Examples relate to determination of glucose, of hydrogen peroxide, and of blood in urine. Other determinations are mentioned. |
