An electrostatographic copying machine has a toner metering device comprising pivotally connected housings 14 and 27 which enclose a rotor 23 mounted on a shaft 18, such that upon relative pivotal movement of the housing 27 and 14 from the Fig.4 (not shown) position into the Fig. 3 position the rotor 23 is driven through a pawl and ratchet 36, 35, Fig.1 (not shown), to dispense a metered amount of toner to a shoot 12 feeding the developing apparatus of the machine. The housing 27 has an extension 32 which receives a disposable toner container 38.
