Bauxite fines are formed to an aggregate of pieces which are tetrahedral pref. 3-4.75 mm in length by mixing a bonding agent with bauxite fines, compressing the mixt., and beating to a temp. at which a strong bond is formed. The mixt is then pref. passed between two cylinders one of which is embossed with the shape it is desired to give the aggregate, which has better road surfacing properties than the original bauxite material the aggregate has a tough texture, is resistant the wear due to the use does not form a smooth surface but continuously develops new rough surfaces. |
