1297135 Making a component JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 18 May 1970 [9 June 1969] 29038/69 Heading B3A A method of manufacturing a component comprises friction welding a metal head to a metal shank of smaller diameter than the head to define a blank and subjecting the blank to an input extrusion process to form a recess in the head. In one embodiment a tubular shank is friction welded to a disc having a centrally disposed hole to form a blank which is then extruded to form cam profiles 16 on the walls of recess 15. In another embodiment the disc head can have a raised circular plateau on one face, with or without a corresponding recess on the other face, so that the tubular shank can be welded on the plateau. The formed component, Fig. 6, is an outer part of a roller clutch assembly. |
