A method of making a ball-point type writing tip includes turning a lip portion 5 inwardly around the ball B by applying high-frequency impacts of relatively low amplitude, which progressively deform the lip portion. The use of high frequency impacts, i.e. from about 12,000 impacts/minute to ultra-sonic frequencies, prevents distortion of the tip, especially when setting balls in relatively long type tips. The tool used may be actuated by compressed air, electricity or mechanical means and the shape of the tool can be used to determine -the shape of an ink chamber 4. |
