2,4,6-Tribromo-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenol, a microbicide and intermediate for pesticides, plant protection agents and pharmaceuticals, is prepd. in improved yields and purity by reacting 3-(trifluoromethyl)-phenol with Br2 in H2O in the presence of a solvent aid, pref. acetic acid or dioxan, at 0-100 degrees C, pref. 0-20 degrees C.
