In separation of >3C hydrocarbons from carrier gases formed in acetylene prodn. by gasoline pyrolysis, by absorption with light gasoline and washing with heavy gasoline, light gasoline is separated into a low-boiling side-stream, and a high-boiling sump. fraction in a distillative drying and stabilising step. The high-boiling fraction is used as heavy gasoline washing agent and recombined with low-boiling fraction after use. - Pref. light gasoline drying and stabilisation take place in a clean stripping section with feeding at top tray.
