A rod profile of a relatively soft polymeric material, such as plasticised PVC, is reinforced by at least one thin strip of stiff but pliable material anchored by its borders into the surface of the rod and covered with a laminated film providing decoration and protection. Esp. suitable for profiles to be curved or bent to fit a non-planar surface, as for decorative beading on an automobile body; the stiff surface insert prevents excessive local kinking or buckling of the rod during bending and subsequently maintains the shape of the bent profile. For a bead profile of plasticised PVC of typically 50-60 Shore A hardness, the thin stiffener may be of rigid PVC or a PVC cpd. of at least 90-95 Shore A hardness, or of ABS. The laminated film may be slightly narrower than the strip which it covers, but should be at least as wide as the exposed surface of that strip, may comprise a flexible PVC film supporting the coated face of a metallised polyester film, which may be overlaid by a layer of transparent polyvinyl fluoride film, to provide the outermost surface.
|
