PURPOSE: An information service providing system and method are provided to enable a subscriber who is in connection with the communication network to answer the telephone for a third person who wants to call the subscriber. CONSTITUTION: An information service providing system(24) includes an automatic response service(ARS) subsystem(26) which is connected to a telephone network(22), and an information service provider(ISP) server(25) which is connected to the telephone network and provides a plurality of subscribers with an on-line information service. The ARS subsystem receives an information of the ISP subscriber whom the originating person wants to call and the originating person's information from the originating person. The ISP server is connected to the ARS subsystem, and provides the originating person's information to the subscriber who corresponds to the subscriber's information received in the ARS subsystem. Therefore, the subscriber can answer the telephone for the originating person even when the subscriber is in connection with the communication network.
