PURPOSE:To provide an insulating material by which molten steel contamination caused by the air oxidation and the reaction of an insulating material is surely prevented and by which the damage and erosion to a refractory are also eliminated. CONSTITUTION:This is the insulating material for molten steel in which a powder mixture having the content of CaO and Al2O3 at 0.5-2.0 on CaO/Al2O3, the content of MgO at 30-60wt.%, and the content of SiO2 at 10wt.% or less is made and moreover, incorporated with 5-70wt.%, in terms of the above powder mixture being 100wt.%, of a hollow sintered compact having more than 60wt.% of MgO content. |
