1345623 Bar feed; lathes TH KIESERLING & ALBRECHT 8 Dec 1971 [15 Feb 1971] 57083/71 Headings B3B and B3T [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for stripping or peeling, e.g. descaling, articles such as rods or tubes, comprises a cutter unit 2 to which a workpiece 3 is fed by pairs of rollers 4 and from which the workpiece is drawn by a work-gripping carriage 5 reciprocable longitudinally of the apparatus. The rollers 4 are driven by a motor 9 which, through a clutch 11a, also drives a roller 17 by means of worm gear 12, 14 and a clutch 15. The carriage 5 includes gripping-jaws 6, 6a of which 6a is movable to a gripping position by a cylinder device 26. Means for reciprocating the carriage comprises the roller 17 which is urged into engagement with a rod 23 secured to the carriage 5. Means for additionally urging the roller 17 upwardly comprises an hydraulically actuated piston-cylinder 19, 20. An idler roller 25 opposes the roller 17. In operation, when the end 3a of the workpiece passes between the gripping-jaws the jaw 6a is operated and the clutches 11a, 15 engaged so that the roller 17 is driven and the carriage 5, together with the rod 24, is drawn to the rear of the bed 1a of the apparatus at a speed corresponding to the feed velocity of the rollers 4. The clutch 11a is then disengaged and drive from a motor 27 is engaged, by means not shown, with the gearing 12, 14 so that the carriage is returned at high speed to its initial position. In a modification, Fig. 5, a roller 29 which engages a stationary traction rail 30 is driven by a variable-speed motor 28 which is mounted on the carriage 5. An idler roller 17a mounted on a piston 20a is pressed into engagement with the rail 30. |
