<p>Cpds. of formula (I): (where Q are Cl (Ia) or together form a C-C bond (Ib) are plant-protection agents, and (Ib) is a red pigment, e.g. for colouring plastics and lacquers, and an inter. for other pigments. (I) may be prepd. by reacting a cpd. (II): (where n = 0-4; R = H or a removable gp.; X and Y are O or H2; Z = H, or both Z together form a C-C bond) with a chlorinating agent, pref. excess PCl5, PCl5 + Cl2 or PCl3 + Cl2, at 0-350, esp. 280-320 degrees C. When X and/or Y = O, the chlorinating agent must contain >=1 mole PCl5 or 1 mole PCl3 + 1 mole Cl2.</p> |
