PURPOSE:To provide the optical multiplexer which decreases the coupling loss of graded index optical fibers and branch waveguides and can multiplex guided light rays at a low loss by forming plural 1st optical fibers of the graded index optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The 1st, 2nd graded index optical fiber 41A, 41B are respectively connected to the branch waveguide 11b11 (11b12) and main waveguide 11b2. The core width of the branch waveguide 11b11 (11b12) is set at 42-70% of the core diameter of the fibers 41A, 41B and the core thickness of the branch waveguides 11b11, 11b12 is set at 70-90% of the core diameter of the fibers 41A, 41B. The guided light rays propagated in the 1st, 2nd graded index optical fibers 41A, 41B are efficiently multiplexed and demultiplexed at the low loss by forming the fibers and waveguides to such relation. |
