TREATING AGENT FOR ADSORBING AND DECOMPOSING CONTAMINANT AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To prevent the diffusion of contaminants by effective adsorption and to decompose the contaminants into harmless substances by using a treating agent contg. an adsorbing substance which adsorbs contaminants and a decomposition accelerating substance which accelerates the decomposition of the adsorbed contaminants. CONSTITUTION:A porous sintered body obtd. by firing a blend of silicon dioxide with one or more kinds of metal oxides selected among calcium oxide, aluminum oxide, iron oxide, manganese oxide, magnesium oxide and potassium oxide is crushed to obtain a granular decomposition accelerating substance and this substance is blended with a granular adsorbing substance such as activated carbon. When the resulting treating agent for adsorption and decomposition is used, the diffusion of contaminants is prevented by effective adsorption and the contaminants can be decomposed into harmless substances by the action of the treating agent itself or indirect action by which microorganisms are made active to accelerate biochemical decomposition action.
