A crimping apparatus (10) for receiving a circular array of die segments (60) for radially inwardly crimping an end fitting onto a hose includes an upper plate assembly (12) and a lower plate assembly (13). The upper plate assembly (12) includes an upper back plate (14) attached to an upper front plate (16) by a plurality of fasteners (38). The lower plate assembly (13) includes a lower back plate (18) attached to a lower front plate (20) by a plurality of fasteners (38). The upper back plate (14) and upper front plate (16) cooperate to form a first hinge portion (75, 90) and the lower back plate (18) cooperates with the lower front plate (20) to form a second hinge portion (30, 48). The arrangement allows the upper plate assembly (12) to pivot about the lower plate assembly (13) at the first (75, 90) and second (30, 48) hinge portions. The crimping apparatus (10) is advantageous because it allows the passage of large elbow hose fittings that could not pass through the central bore of a conventional die cage. |
