A child safety-seat 1 for use in a motor vehicle which has an air-bag in the dashboard 5 is adapted to rest on the front passenger seat 2, with the child seat facing rearwardly 11 of the vehicle. A strap 13 extends from a position 11 on the rigid shell 7 of the child-seat to a substantially fixed point under the dashboard, the strap being associated with a retractor mechanism 14 adapted to tension the strap and adapted to prevent the strap from being paid out from the retractor mechanism to prevent rearward movement of the child-seat should the air bag deploy. <IMAGE>
