The method involves upper and lower press heat plates which are together deformed longitudinally to the press gap variation so that through it a greater longitudinal deformation gradient from the sum of tan alpha + tan beta which equates to a longitudinal deformation gradient of 0 to about 8 mm/m. The weight of the continuously operating press is elastically supported by pretensioned mechanical or hydraulic springs (17) on the two longitudinal sides of the bridge plates (15,16) of the pressing table (2).
