The press has a slide arrangement formed as rolling wheel segments (38) fitted to each frame (22) and on each longitudinal side. The centre of rotation (E) of the wheel segments and slide journals (39) lie on the same centre and the ratio of their radii, r to R, is such that during rolling support on the lower support beam (36) the rolling friction resistance is approximately equal to, or less than, 0.5 to 0.05.
