Electrothermic weapon with projectile ejection barrel

A plasma burner for electrothermic barrelled weapons has an arc generated between a central electrode(40) and an annular one (48) electrically insulated from the former, thereby creating a plasma under high pressure which drives a projectile out of the barrel. The central electrode is fixed in a mounting (36) supported by an insulating layer(44) against the barrel and the mounting is designed as a pressure reducer. The maximum diameter of the mounting in a wider part is greater than the diameter between the discharge channel formed between the electrodes. The insulating layer is around this wider part and a backwards-facing shoulder supports itself on an inwards-facing part of the layer.
