The present invention relates to a method for quantization based on fast rate-distortion optimization, which is performed by an apparatus for quantization based on fast rate-distortion optimization. According to the present invention, provided is the method for quantization based on fast rate-distortion optimization, the method comprising the steps of: initializing context information by initializing a value of first context information in a transformation block to one and by initializing a value of second context information in the transformation block to zero; scanning transformation coefficients in the transformation block and quantizing the transformation coefficients; calculating quantized level values of the transformation coefficients, and determining optimal quantized level values for locations of some transformation coefficients in the transformation block or for sub-blocks in the transformation block; and determining optimal last significant coefficients for the locations of the some transformation coefficients or for the sub-blocks; and further comprising the step of applying scalar quantization using a dead zone to the locations of the some transformation coefficients or for the sub-blocks. According to the present invention, complexity of quantization can be reduced. |
