The spinning orifices of spinnerets for melt-spinning are arranged in two straight or somewhat curved converging rows which include an angle whose bisecting line is parallel to the direction of the flow of cooling air which flow is in a direction transverse to the downward path of travel of the extruded filaments. The distance between any two adjacent holes in either row is such that the points of intersection of a line at right angles to the direction of flow of the cooling air and the two lines joining the centres of the orifices and parallel with the direction of flow of the cooling air are at least 1 mm. apart. The angle included between the two rows when they are produced to meet in the direction of convergence to form a V-shaped figure may be between 30 and 120 degrees and preferably between 45 and 80 degrees. |
