Copolymerisation of (a) a C8-12 vinylbenzene hyrocarbon; (b) a semi-ester of maleic acid with an aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic C1-12 alcohol and opt. (c) up to 10 wt.% of another ethylenically unsatd. comonomer, in aqs. suspension in presence of initiators, protective colloids and, opt. other additives, with stirring, is effected in presence of 0.2-5% by wt. of total monomer mass, of diethanolaminosulphate. The protective colloid may be PVA. Products are used in mfre. of binders and printing inks.
