In a capacitance-responsive proximity detector circuit for use in automatically flushing a urinal, the antenna 14 is surrounded by a ring electrode 15 and an electrically conductive shield 16 is connected via tab 17 and spring contact 19 to the ring electrode and hangs from hooks 18 which engage electrically insulating protrusions 44, 46 on the earthed back plate 30. The antenna 14 is connected via spring 28 and the central conductor of a coaxial cable 22 to the rest of the circuit in box 40. The ring electrode 15 and shield 16 are connected to the outer conductor of the coaxial cable. An adjustable capacitor (not shown) is connected between the inner and outer conductors of the cable 22. A dielectric encasement 10 encloses the apparatus which in use is placed on the top ledge of the urinal. 52 denotes the water pipe. |
