1,173,991. Chip feeder valve. BELOIT CORP. 14 March, 1967 [23 March, 1966], No. 11846/67. Heading B1X. A chip feeder valve for a continuous digester system comprises valve housing 17, rotor 19 rotatable in the cylindrical bore of housing 17, in the rotor circumferentially spaced pockets 21 opening to the periphery of the rotor, chip bin 24 supplying chips to chip supply opening 23 in housing 17, a liquor supply opening in the housing, for example low pressure liquor supply opening 26 and high pressure liquor supply opening 29 both fed from reservoir 13, and axially aligned flushing openings 41, 42 (Fig. 3 not shown), opening 41 being connectable with a source of pressurized liquor, i.e. from digester 11 to flush the chips from pockets 21, and opening 42 being connectable to the digester for delivering the chips in the high pressure liquor to the digester. Rotor (19) has inwardly tapered end walls (52), (53) and its shaft (54) is journalled in bearing members (56), (57) carried in housing end walls with complementary taper to reduce lateral deflection of the shaft (Fig. 3). In the embodiment of Figs. 4 to 6 (not shown), the rotor is mounted with its axis vertical and the housing carries opposed pairs of openings for chips, liquors &c. In the embodiment of Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown) the rotor (19b) is mounted on a horizontal axis, and the chip supply opening (23b) is at the bottom of the housing. The chip supply bin surrounds the chip supply opening and is maintained full of liquor so that the chips float up to and fill the pockets (21b) as the rotor rotates. |
