To facilitate the application of flexible printing plates of, for example, plastics material, to plate cylinders, and to aid the registration of the individual printing plates in multicolour printing, each plate P is applied to a curved support saddle S before use and the.saddle; with the plate on it, is clamped on to a plate cylinder. Plate P is placed on table 3. Slidable clamps 34, 50 hold the plate on the table 3, and make it possible to move it into a correctly registered position. Then table 3 is moved into the position shown in dashed lines, so that the plate contacts saddle S, which is temporarily mounted on cylinder 4. Rotation of cylinder 4 draws plate P from table 3 and roller 16 presses it firmly against saddle S, where it is fastened by an adhesive. The saddle may then be transferred to a plate cylinder, where it is preferably secured by clamps identical to those which held it to cylinder 4. Alternatively table 3 may feed the plate directly to a saddle mounted on a plate cylinder. |
