METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF BARIUM HYDROXIDE

The continuous production of barium hydroxide by the oxidation of a barium polysulfide-containing-barium sulfide solution using oxygen-containing gases is carried out between 45 DEG and 80 DEG C. in several stages placed in series. The oxidation is stopped at a point within specified values. Also, certain molar ratios of total sulfur to monosulfide sulfur in the barium sulfide-starting solution are maintained. Liquors obtained during recrystallization can be purified by a stagewise oxidation.
