PURPOSE:To prevent or treat urinary calculus of pets such as dogs, cats or small animals by a pharmaceutical preparation having high palatability and free from side effects. CONSTITUTION:This method for treating urinary calculus of pets is to administer or feed a pharmaceutical preparation or a pet food containing an edible carboxylic acid such as fumaric acid or its salt, an edible oxycarboxylic acid or its salt to pets. The content of the edible organic acid or its salt is about 0.1-99.9wt.% in the case of a pharmaceutical preparation such as a solid pharmaceutical preparation and about 0.01-10wt.% in the case of pet food such as dry food, expressed in terms of edible organic acid. The dose of the edible organic acid or its salt is about 5-500mg/kg weight. day, expressed in terms of the edible organic acid.
