<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the size and weight of a controller for a DC motor particularly in an electric motor vehicle and to enhance the reliability of the motor by employing different chopper control frequency for each chopper unit. CONSTITUTION:The control frequency of an armature chopper unit 5 is increased higher than that of a field chopper unit 8. In this manner, the gate drive unit of the chopper unit 8 and a snubber circuit can be reduced in size. The gate drive unit of the chopper unit 5 requires large size due to the use of high control frequency, but main smoothing reactor 6 and a filter condenser 3 can be reduced in size. Accordingly, the drawbacks of the increase in the capacities of the gate drive unit and the snubber circuit can be sufficiently compensated.</p> |
