PURPOSE:To perform sealing with excellent air and liquid tightness by condensing laser beam into sports in which the circumferential diameter of a scanning circle can be doubled for the radial diameter and annularly scanning the circumference of a battery. CONSTITUTION:The inner part of a battery container 1 made of a nickel-plated stainless steel sheet is filled with power generating elements such as a positive electrode 2, separator 3, negative electrode 4, and organic electrolyte and an annular insulating body 5 is loaded on the negative electrode 4 and then the opening section of the container 1 is sealed with a battery cover 6. The battery cover 6 is comprised a nickel- plated stainless steel sheet and a pillar-shaped collecting body 8 is mounted on the central part through a glass layer 7 so as to penetrate. The battery cover 6 is fit in the container 1 and the external section of the battery cover 6 is irradiated with laser beam 11 by condensing it into spots 12 by means of a mirror with a three-dimensional curved surface so that the circumferential diameter of a scanning circle can be set twice or more as large as the radial diameter of the scanning circle and then the external section of the battery cover and the opening end of the container 1 are welded. As a result, a melting pond 9 can be deepened and sealing with excellent air and liquid tightness is enabled. |
