In a motor vehicle headlamp, a reflector (11) is provided whose paraboloid surface has an upper section and a lower section having different focal points (f1, f2). The focal point (f2) of the lower reflection surface is situated in front of the focal point (f1) of the upper reflection surface by an amount which is larger than the length of the secondary incandescent filament (13). The secondary incandescent filament (13) is arranged between the two focal points (f1, f2), thus producing an effective utilisation of the light produced and a beam pattern of high light intensity and a uniform distribution. <IMAGE>
