An apparatus for the cutting-to-length of pieces of construction material is provided with automatic cutting devices for producing pieces of construction material with accurately trimmed end faces. Conveying devices for transporting both end areas of a piece of construction material run parallel to one another in order to move the piece of construction material to positioning members which establish cutting positions of the material directly below circular saw blades. Movable supports, which are attached for supporting both end areas of the piece of construction material, are lifted from waiting positions towards the circular saw blades and clamp the piece of construction material in place together with pressure plates. In this way, areas to be cut at both ends of the piece of construction material are simultaneously guided into cutting zones of the circular saw blades. After the cutting operation is complete, the machined piece of construction material is brought back to the conveying devices and moved along for delivery. At the two groups of cutting devices, a predetermined distance can be established between the cutting planes of the circular saw blades in order to obtain a piece of construction material of predetermined length. <IMAGE>
