PURPOSE:To improve the contrast while the luminance on a screen is maintained as it is a conventional element. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal layer 33 is electrically controlled into a scattering state or a transparent state. When the liquid crystal layer 33 is in a transparent state, incident light to projections 35 transmits so that the luminance of the element is same as that of a conventional liquid crystal element. On the other hand, when the liquid crystal layer 33 is in a scattering state, direction of the light incident to the projections 35 is changed by the projections 35. Thus, the scattering intensity is increased. |
