A Korean character input device and a portable communication terminal including the device are provided to allocate input keys for specifying horizontal and vertical touches to separate input keys according to directions of the touches, thus a user's character recognition can be improved while mechanical durability of the input device is enhanced. A character input unit(110) consists of plural consonant and vowel input keys. A Korean character generation unit specifies consonants and vowels of the Korean character according to input patterns, and combines the Korean character according to the specified consonants and vowels. The first and second consonants are allocated to a portion of or all of the consonant input keys, respectively. The generation unit specifies the first and second consonants by distinguishing the consonants, depending on whether the consonant input keys allocated with the first and second consonants are inputted by single typing or consecutive typing. A horizontal touch is allocated to the second consonant input key, while a vertical touch is allocated to the third consonant input key. |
