PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve reduction in size and simplification of a fixing unit and prevent an excessive load from acting on the fixing unit.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus of the present invention includes a fixing unit 18 that has fixing nip forming means 61 for bringing a second rotary member 60 into pressure contact with a first rotary member 58 to form a fixing nip 78, and an apparatus body to which the fixing unit 18 is attached. The apparatus body is provided with nip pressure switching means 37 including an elliptical cam 54 that presses the fixing nip forming means 61 to switch the pressure on the fixing nip 78 into two or more steps. The nip pressure switching means 37 further includes a straight rod-like shaft 50, and a D-cut-like fixing part 56 of the shaft is inserted into a D-cut-like fixing hole 55 formed in the cam 54 to regulate the rotation of the cam 54 relative to the shaft 50. |
