The zinc condensing efficiency in a zinc producing blast furnace unit which comprises a feed preparation machine, feed transfer apparatus, furnace charging gear, furnace shaft, gas offtakes and at least one condenser for zinc of the leadsplash type, is improved by introducing free or combined chlorine into the furnace unit. Combined chlorine may be used in the form of hydrogen chloride, ammonium chloride, or the chloride of a Group I or II element. The examples relate to (a) the introduction of chlorine gas into the offtake tube between shaft and condenser, and (b) the charging of sodium chloride briquettes to the shaft.</p> |
